The story so far

Four students, one long wet winter, and two very different ways of falling.

Yun Shangjin and Seo Yuna find each other in the rain — slowly, and without either of them ever saying so. He starts turning up outside the café at the same hour on purpose, because after a long day the sight of her smiling at whatever she has just photographed settles him faster than anything else does.

Chen Yu already knows how his own story starts. He met Choi Ji-woo days before term began, for about four minutes, and has been certain ever since. She doesn't remember it. He says nothing all autumn — and then, at the resort over winter break, he stops to help a beginner who keeps falling off her board, looks up, and finds her watching him from the lift queue.

By spring nothing has been said out loud, and everything has changed anyway. Grumps declines to comment.

Face — do not change

Long narrow oval with a clean tapered jaw and a defined pointed chin — sharper than it is soft. High cheekbones, a long straight nose with a small tip, and a small mouth with a fuller lower lip in muted pink. Eyes are the anchor: almond-shaped with a slight downward outer tilt, large pale grey-blue irises with a lighter ring at the rim, a dark upper lash line, and a heavy lid that keeps him looking half-asleep. Everyone else uses 尚谨, or nothing at all. 阿谨 (Ā Jǐn) is his mother's alone — nobody else has ever been allowed it, and he goes very quiet if someone tries.

Hair 02 — swept-back undercut

Low ponytail. Sides and back clipped short to a soft grey shadow, with all the length kept on top and pushed up and back off the forehead in one thick wave. Full forehead and both brows exposed, the sweep angled slightly to his left. No blue in this version — flat silver-white only. Reads sharper and a few years older than the canon cut.

Hair 03 — long side sweep

Soft layered. Deep part low on his right, the whole fringe combed across the forehead in one long diagonal sweep that ends past the far eyebrow. Smoother and flatter than the shag — less choppy texture, more weight. The cobalt streak runs the full length of the sweep, so the blue reads as a diagonal band rather than a front panel.

Constants across every look

The curtain fringe never goes away, whatever the length or colour behind it. Everything she wears is soft-edged and slightly loose — no sharp tailoring, no black except the school backpack and the plaid. White socks and white sneakers are her default footwear in every outfit that isn't slippers.

Long, calm face with a straight nose, level dark brows and a composed set to the mouth — older-looking than nineteen, the face of someone used to being right. Cool grey-blue eyes behind thin silver-framed glasses, which are almost always on. Fair, even skin. The defining feature is the hair: glossy black, kept long and straight past the shoulders, always brushed and never in the way — deliberate, not careless.

The glasses are part of the face; draw them in every panel unless a close-up calls for them off. Same features throughout — only hair and clothes change.

The thing nobody mentions

Him and Ji-woo

He is Choi Ji-woo's older brother by adoption — a year above her at the same school. Almost no one knows. They don't advertise it, they don't look alike, and neither of them corrects the assumption that they are simply two students who happen to share a surname on a form somewhere.

Between the two of them it is quietly awkward. They are careful with each other in a way that siblings who grew up together never are — polite, a little formal, leaving more space than the situation needs. Neither has worked out how to be a brother or a sister to someone they met halfway through childhood, so they mostly don't try, and the not-trying is its own small weather system whenever they are in the same room.

Ji-woo mentors half the school and looks after everyone; she has never once tried to look after him, and he has never asked her to. That gap is the whole relationship.

He thinks before he speaks and speaks in finished sentences; people take him for the authority in a group even when he hasn't said anything yet — the same reflex his sister triggers, arrived at from the opposite direction. Reserved rather than cold. He keeps his distance, keeps his hair immaculate, and keeps his own counsel — and the one relationship he can't reason his way through is the one at home.

Angular face with a wide jaw and a square chin — the broadest build of the group. Straight dark-auburn brows set low over narrow grey-hazel eyes with a level, unimpressed gaze. Straight nose with a slightly heavy bridge, firm mouth held in a flat line. Fair skin with a faint wind-burn flush across the cheekbones and nose from being outdoors. Bright copper-orange hair, thick and coarse, worn short with the front pushed up and back off the forehead.

Tall and genuinely athletic: broad shoulders, long legs, visible upper-body mass under the clothes. He is the same age as Yun Shangjin — and, like him, Chinese — but reads several years older next to him. He met Choi Ji-woo days before term started and has been certain ever since; she doesn't remember it.

Round, open face with soft cheeks and a small pointed chin — visibly younger than the rest of them. Bright copper-orange hair, thick and slightly wavy, the same shade as her brother's. Light freckling across the nose. The detail that defines her: heterochromia — her right eye is clear green, her left is pale blue, and she is the only one of them who looks straight at people when she talks.

Who she is

Fourteen, and already better at one thing than most people are at anything. She paints constantly — on canvas, on the back of homework, on her own hands — and treats it as completely ordinary, which it isn't.

Where her brother is short with people, she is direct with them: she says what she notices, including things nobody asked her to notice, and she notices a lot.

Indoors and at school she keeps it plain — grey, navy, white — because the colour in her life is on the canvas. Going out is the exception: violet, denim blue and black lace, and the purple boots she refuses to replace.

Silver tabby with a pale, almost white ground coat and charcoal markings: dense stripes down the spine, broad marbled swirls along the flanks, fine pencil stripes on the legs and close bands ringing the tail to a dark tip. Face has the classic tabby brow lines running back between the ears and dark eye-liner rims. Round wide-set eyes in clear green with big pupils. Small dusty-pink nose, pale muzzle, long white whiskers. Chest, belly and all four paws are white. Compact body, upright ears, thick medium-length coat.

Collar

Always wearing a slim pale grey-blue collar with a silver fish-shaped tag engraved with a single G. The tag hangs at the centre of the chest and is the one accessory that never changes.

Use these three for anything close-up. The eye green is cool and slightly yellow at the inner rim, never blue-green. The flank swirls are soft-edged, not sharp stripes — they blur into the silver ground rather than sitting on top of it.

The only one that works

Catnip biscuits, and nothing else. Small tan-and-cream pieces served in a shallow white bowl — he will not take them from a hand, only from the floor, and only once whoever put them down has walked away.

Two or three is the limit before he loses interest entirely and pretends the bowl was never there.

The collar and the engraved fish tag are always on. All four paws stay white, the tail always ends in a dark tip, and the eyes stay clear green — never gold, never blue.

He is drawn with a compact, slightly heavy build; nothing lanky. Ears upright and forward unless he is annoyed, in which case they turn out rather than flatten.

Scale note: he sits about knee-high to Seo Yuna and lower on Yun Shangjin — 22 cm sitting, 32 cm at the shoulder standing.
